The NextGen Home combines cutting-edge technology with basic affordability.
Found in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the International Builders' Show, the NextGen Home is the marriage of cutting-edge technologies to an affordable construction package.
It includes a home theater and an easy-to-use automation system that can control the thermostat, lights, and security system, while distributing audio and video to any room. There's a new-generation wireless system that can stream video around the house without interruption.
To make it more comfortable, designers used advanced insulation and air sealing, high-performance HVAC, and innovative air-cleaning and plumbing systems. The payoff? The home is quieter and more comfortable, provides cleaner air and water, does less damage to the environment, has fewer mold problems, and uses less energy than your typical tract home. And it's built to withstand nature's worst. The energy cost savings more than pays for the construction upgrades.
iShow, the Bellevue, Wash., Internet broadcasting company that is managing NextGen, has conceived it as a true omni-media project. As the Builders' Show opens, the home's Web site will detail the home's products and systems. Video footage will be added to the site during and after the show.
The site will be available until late spring. For more information, log on to www.NextGen04.com.
