There will be more than 133 million WiMAX users worldwide by 2012, a study by the WiMAX Forum says.
"WiMAX Forum Worldwide Subscriber and User Forecasts," to be published in April, estimates that approximately 70 percent of the forecasted users by 2012 will use mobile WiMAX devices to access Internet services.
The preliminary results, released at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, reflect the increasing demand for mobile Internet services across the world.
The study says a key driver for WiMAX growth will be the adoption of the technology in areas like Asia Pacific and the Americas, where WiMAX technology is anticipated to be the leading technology for broadband Internet access.
The first Mobile WiMAX Certified products are expected to be certified in Q2 2008. The WiMAX Forum estimates that there will be more than 1,000 Mobile WiMAX products throughout the world by 2011.
