UPB Powerline Technology Now Viable for MDUs

Installers who have used Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) from Powerline Control Systems will tell you that it's probably the best powerline-control solution ever to hit the market.

If you love the technology for residential installs, now you can apply it to MDUs, thanks to PCS's new PulseWorx Three-Phase Repeater (Model TPR-120).

The small module allows UPB-enabled products such and lights and appliances to communicate over a three-phase 120/208VAC delta-wye 60Hz powerline.

Three-phase electrical systems typically are employed in light commercial facilities and multi-dwelling units such as apartments and condos.

Since UPB technology was designed to work on a single phase powerline (such as found in most homes), the signals will not directly jump across all three phases of a 120/208V electrical system.

The TPR transfers any UPB multi-packet generated signal on a single phase and positions and repeats them properly onto all three phases of the powerline.

The TPR connects to a standard three-phase circuit breaker. It can be added to any UPB network using PCS's UPStart programming software. This enables the TPR's receive sensitivity to be adjusted along with performing communications and signal strength tests between other devices.

Installers, then, can certify a system's integrity.
